Tech Team Meeting - November 19, 2009

Members present: Andrea Lusk, Kathy Seibert, Debbie Gibson, Jason Fine, Abby Blake, Shelly Main, Caren Wildman, Lauren Kowalski

Organization:

• Jason - Update on classroom websites and future web training for teachers. Develop plan for this training.

  • Aug. 17/18; want to offer future sessions
  • Teachers feel new website is not user friendly. Not visually appealing for parent communication or for celebrating classroom projects with digital images, videos, audio, etc.
  • Wiki training instead at next Tech Cafe

• Tech Team wiki. Meeting notes and agendas placed here. Any problems or concerns?

  • Need to put link to UA Help desk on Barrington Wiki

• Intervention Specialists are now able to access Filemaker at home for IEP/MFE work.

• Lauren - iPod Distribution update and future plans.
• Network problems still exist. Proposed date for completion?
  • Imaging issues... teachers didn't feel it was necessary. The items that needed updated (Type to learn, etc) weren't necessary for teacher computers.
  • Need a list of everything needed for back-up including clip-art, music, etc (not just documents)
  • More specific dates ahead of time
  • Create list for Jeff Collet's spring meeting
• Consideration of new Technology Team name. New ideas? 21st Century Learning Team
  • Are we redefining our role?

Server clean-up: Who's in charge? How can we keep it organized?

Staff Development:

1. Share reflections on November Data Training Days
Follow-up training/analysis in PLC's in January and February.

November 3, 2009 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. & November 4, 2009 from 8:00 - 3:00 p.m.

• Share the Google Survey Results
  • Very positive feedback
• Goal 1 - To organize student data to inform classroom instruction.
• Goal 2 - Teachers will leave with data and intervention plan for students performing above and below expected.
  • Andrea and Jason possibly meet with PLCs to follow-up from sessions

2. Learning Team Meeting Tech Cafe' - January 26, 2009

• Tech Cafe' Topics, Presenters? Andrea will check the availability of the other Coaches. The Tech team members would also enjoy attending these sessions.

• Tutorials and teacher resources will be housed on Barrington Tech Team wiki

3. Learning Team Meeting Dec. 1 Carol, Betsy, Christi, and MH will be presenting Media Literacy

4. Release days for Integration time with 21st Century Coaches - Use data from fall for lesson development/enhancement that incorporates 21st Century Skills

• February/March
• Lesson sharing in spring w/ snacks/dinner
• Could we share/house lessons on Tech Team wiki (Lesson Exemplars) or Barrington wiki?
  • Put on hold for now

5. eTech Conference - February 1, 2, and 3, 2009 - Attendance will be building funded

• Carol Craven no longer has money to fund
• $95 per day
• Who wants to go?

6. Did Tech Team Members have the opportunity to report back to staff about changes to student image & saving to server?

Abby - Informal -
Wildman - 2nd Grade - waiting for computers to be reimaged first
Main - 4th Grade - yes
Collier - Grades 3 and 5
Lauren - Grade 1
Debbie - Special Areas -still awaiting for computers to be reimaged
Andrea - Kindergarten (Yes, I worked with Kindergarten during a working lunch in October)

Budget:

• Tech Education - Carol's budget:

  • Barrington $1,918.00 (spent by March)

  • Allocation Request forms for Technology Requests - Could Tech Team present this info at a staff meeting? Interested teachers could see Tech Team for Allocation Form.

    • Tech Team will now review all technology requests
    • Form to be accessible on the Barrington Wiki
    • At next LTM, share this form with staff
    • Teachers need to be careful to only ask for the necessities (watch total amounts)
• iPods - replacement of missing parts?
  • Only 5 ipods not checked out for the entire quarter
  • Possibility of getting iPod touch for future purchases?
• Jump Drives for students (USB drives)
  • On supply lists for next year (2010-2011)
  • PTO not fulfulling the request for this year

• Headphones with recording capabilities (set for Lab)
  • Overheads- Why aren't these being replaced? Are bulbs being replaced? It's not outdated technology if the district isn't providing a new technology that carries out the same purpose. (Ex. Can't write on what's being projected onto a screen.)
  • Tech Team is REALLY interested in SMARTBoards and/or document cameras. Lauren and Andrea are looking into Grant opportunities
  • Talk to Carol Collier about budget
